      A Letter from Pascale

Dear Friend,

How are you doing? Are you managing to stay grounded in the season that makes most people crazy? In the natural world, the plants and animals take the gift of winter as an opportunity to get some quiet time. As evolved humans, we tend to do the opposite – parties, obligations, commercial immersion and family pressures. No wonder we’ve mostly forgotten what these holidays are about.

Instead, I invite you to take a deep breath. And then another. Spend even a little time finding out what this season means to you and how you can make it a beautiful part of a life well lived. This newsletter contains some of my thoughts on the gifts we get, the gifts we share and the practice of gratitude. I hope you find something that speaks to you, and that creates a clearing for your light to shine unobstructed. Mostly, I hope to see or hear from you soon.

Wishing you wellness,

      ARTICLE: Gifts, Offerings, and Thanks

As we hover in the space between major holidays, it creates an opening for the questions: What is giving, what is receiving, and what is gratitude? Although Thanksgiving gave us an opportunity to embody our blessings, for many of us it was only about the menu, the guests and the indigestion. So now, we are offered another opportunity (in fact we get one every moment) to create the experience of thanks by understanding our role in the endless cycle of giving and taking.

The breath is our simplest teacher. We are designed to take in as much breath as we release. Any exaggeration – whether it’s holding the breath in (grasping) or holding the breath out (aversion) – leads to instability and imbalance. It is as fine a lesson as any to be enlivened by that which we give as much as that which we receive. In fact, that’s when our true divinity is at work.

Gratitude can be the ingredient that binds us in this beautiful cycle. It can be found in every moment, whether we are the bearer or the recipient. Because, in reality, they are the same act. Can you think of a time when you were so delighted to offer a gift that it was better than receiving? And can you remember a gift you received that was so imbued with love that it did not matter what it was? I think of gifts from my daughter here, including the delightful notes and artwork from an enthusiastic 5 year old. Even the questionable items dug up from the garden filled me with gratitude because they were given with love.

If we can give and receive freely, moving away from the inherent suffering in grasping and aversion, then we are left with love, peace and gratitude. Joy can bubble up from just participating in the flow of life. Then, the light can’t help but illuminate all we experience.

       RECOMMENDATIONS: What I'm Reading

My favorite pastime is reading. I enjoy books like most people enjoy chocolate. Here I’d like to share with you what words are impacting me the most. So many books, so little time.

I recently re-connected with one of my earliest teachers, Dr. Joan Borysenko. She is a former clinical scientist who discovered the power of spirituality to impact health and wellness. She speaks very clearly to women’s realities and has profound knowledge in most spiritual realms. Her newest book, Your Soul’s Compass, was written with her husband, and is a survey of the most important spiritual texts, including the New Testament, the Tao Te Ching and Vedas. I would highly recommend it – perfect for holiday reading! You can always check it out at the lending library at our Somerset location.

My good friend and colleague, Seth Braun, has written one of the most fun and useful books I’ve seen. It’s called Healthy, Fast and Cheap: The Ultimate College Cookbook, and is a guide for young people to learn to feed themselves. In addition to being a cookbook, Seth also deals with time and money management, as well as tips on dating. I enjoy the recipes, but find myself smiling or chuckling at his witty, engaging writing. I give it to everyone I know going off to college, or wanting to be more in charge of their health. Check out a preview of the book here.

I’ve scored a great deal for the Feed Your Soul and CenterSpace communities. Clicking this link will get you 20% off the Amazon.com rate. Highly recommended!!

Emotional Freedom Technique – An Introduction

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."
"Our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases.
"

EFT is one of the most exciting techniques I have come across to address both physical and emotional issues. It is based on the ancient science of acupressure points – like acupuncture without needles. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere.

I have been using this method personally and with my clients with great success. It has been documented as providing thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues.

Join me for a FREE introduction into the power of EFT.
